Was it the right thing to do? What was the right thing?

In part 6 George decides to go with the rest of the men after Lennie because he killed Curleys Wife.  When the guys find Curleys Wife dead in the barn, George and Slim immediately know Lennie was the one who did it.  Knowing Lennie, we know he would not do this purposefully but simply it was an accident.  George realizes that Lennie is dangerous and we figure out that this wasnt the first time he had accidentally killed someone.  George decides to talk to Lennie before killing him, saying that right now they would go get the farm and live out their "American Dream." As George approaches Lennie he says, "' No, Lennie. I ain't mad. I never been mad, an' I aint now"(106).  I think that George was making sure Lennie knew that he wasn't mad and wanted him to die happy and thinking they would go to the farm and everything would be OK.

What would you have done if you were George?

In the last line of the book Carlson states " Now what the hell ya suppose is eatin' them two guys?"(107). Throughout the book we learn that Carlson and Curley are unsympathetic and do not have many feelings towards others.  Slim on the other hand was introduced as someone who would be stuck up and thinks he is better than everyone, but we learn he is the opposite.  So when George shoots Lennie, Slim and George understand its the right thing to do but still feel terrible about it seeing George had just killed a human being.  Curley and Carlson on the other hand ask why they are so down about it because they only see it as killing him because he killed Curleys wife, but Slim and George know that this is the right choice because of how dangerous Lennie has become.
