Predatory Nature of Humans

During part four in Of Mice And Men, there is a common theme which is the predatory nature of humans. In this part of the book, loneliness is the cause this recurring theme. Crooks isn’t “wanted in the bunkhouse” and is isolated causing him to prey on the weaker which happens to be Lennie (68). Crooks says, “s’pose he don’t come back” which makes Lennie very upset and is the reaction that Crooks wants (72). Another example of this is when Curley’s wife comes to the barn. Curley and his wife don't happen to get along very well. Curley’s wife doesn’t get very much attention from him because he “spends all his time sayin’ what hes gonna do to guys he don’t like” causing her to be very lonely. Because she is isolated it causes her to prey on the weak, Crooks and Lennie. When she sees them in the barn she states, “They left all the weak ones here” (77). I think that if Curley gave his wife more attention, a lot would change. She would be a lot nicer and maybe others would talk to her more which could make everyone less lonely. How do you think Curley’s wife would act if she got more attention?
