Irony in Part 2
One thing that stood out to me in part 2 was when George said Lennie's full name, Lennie Small. I feel like this could set up something larger in the book later on because Lennie is so obviously not a small person. This could lead to an event where Lennie does something bad because of his strength. The use of irony in this part was a good way to set up a problem later in the book. When the boss observed that George did not do much talking, George said, "No, he ain't, but he's sure a [heck] of a good worker. Strong as a bull."(22). this shows that George is worried about Lennie but he knows how strong he was.
Bea,
ReplyDeleteI agree about the irony in Lennie's name. His last name makes him sound like a small man, but he is not. He is a strong man with great qualities ans his last name will definitely create some conflict.
