Confession from Crooks

What struck me in part 4 was how much Crooks opened up to Lennie and Candy. I found it interesting how he scared Lennie into thinking that George was not coming back from town. Crooks struck fear into Lennie's heart by saying to him, "'s'pose George went into town tonight and you never heard of him no more'" (71). Then, it seemed as though Crooks was actually referring to his own life. This got me thinking, did Crooks used to travel around with someone? Or is foreshadowing an event later on in the book. Does Lennie leave George? Or is it the other way around? Either way, I think that someone is going to leave someone else.
